SCHOLARSHIPS

ATTENTION! STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS

DHS offers several scholarships:  1 (one) at $2,500 from the estate of Ruth and Johannes Pedersen, 1 (one) at $2,000 from the Danish Sisterhood of America, Lodge 179, and up to 9 at $1,500 from the DHS.

To be considered for any of these scholarships, you must be of Danish heritage, with either yourself or a close family member (parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle) a paid up member of the Danish House Society, for at least one year.  If you are not of Danish heritage, you may still qualify if you are a DHS member or connected through family to a member of the Danish House Society.   Please note: The membership in the Danish House Society must have taken effect at least one year prior to your scholarship application.

You must be a resident of British Columbia working towards a degree or diploma at an accredited post-secondary institution (the institution can be outside of BC).

Be of good character and provide 3 current written references: at least one from a high school or college/university administrator or faculty member, and the remainder from other sources, including an employer, if applicable.  References are to be current, dated, and signed; if electronically submitted, should clearly show the source.

Your application MUST include:

  1. Your letter, typed, one-sided, on standard 8 ½ x 11 letter-sized paper, maximum 2 pages
  2. Your name, mailing address (or addresses, local and at your place of study if that is out-of-province), phone number, email address
  3. Your Danish House connection, with name(s) and relationship to you
  4. Reasons for requesting the scholarship; your goals
  5. A brief description of your personal interests
  6. Any volunteer experience, especially with DHS
  7. The institution you will be attending, with proof of registration, and student ID number
  8. Transcripts of your past performance, showing latest marks. From high school if you are starting first year; from university, college or institute if applicable
  9. Three references, as described above, 8 ½ x 11 only.

Please note that each applicant is limited to receiving a total of no more than three DHS Scholarships.
