The Danish House Society (DHS) was founded in 1996 to be an equal participant in the Scandinavian Community Centre, along with the Finland, Norwegian and Sweden House Societies. The Centre, located in a country-style Nordic lodge on 4.4 acres, provides a Nordic presence in the community and is a base for the cultural activities of its members. It is easily accessed from all of Metropolitan Vancouver.
You will like what the DHS is doing to promote Danish culture and traditions while having a lot of fun in the process. Our popular “Kro Aften” or Pub Night offers “smorrebrod” – open faced sandwiches – on the first Friday of each month. Other DHS events are the Summer BBQ, a Fall auction, and “Christmas by the Fireside”. Danish Language lessons and cooking classes are also offered. Every event and gathering is made possible because of individuals who cherish their Danish heritage and volunteer their time to ensure that it is not forgotten.
Many other on-going events and activities are shared with the other Nordic Houses through the Scandinavian Centre. These include a popular monthly seniors luncheon, bridge tournaments, folk dancing and the annual Scandinavian Midsummer Festival.
We would invite you to join us as a Member. You can participate in many varied events and activities! You can also have lots of fun and meet many people by volunteering some of your time to ensure that Danish culture lives on in British Columbia. Membership in the Danish House Society is available to anyone with an interest in Danish culture and heritage. Membership is also open to corporations and organizations. Membership in the DHS also includes your membership in the Scandinavian Community Centre. English is the main language spoken at all events.
