The Canadian Friends of Finland have invited Alan Matheson to give a lecture on the History of Finnish Jazz. Alan has been teaching Jazz at VCC since 1985, at UBCās continuing studies since 2000 and at the VSO School of Music since 2014. Alan has done a lot of research in this area and has recordings going back to the beginnings of Finnish Jazz in 1931 to more contemporary styles of Finnish Jazz.
For the last 10 years Alan and his wife Riina have visited Finland every summer and Alan has played at several Finnish Jazz venues. (Storyville Jazz Club, Malmitalo, Otava Jazz Festival and Vilppulakoski Jazz Festival).
